Has the NZ Public Become so Trusting, We have Become Ignorant?
There is no doubt that the Covid-19 pandemic is a once in a lifetime event, or so we hope. It has been the cause of thousands of deaths Worldwide, and restrictions were needed to save lives. We should be thankful to our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in that she acted quickly and decisively and probably saved some lives in New Zealand. How many lives, we will never know, though from looking at how things have played out in Australia who did not put in such extreme measures, it is unlikely to be a figure in the hundreds, let alone thousands that some estimated.
With the actions the PM took, her smiles, jokes and reassurance, many in NZ have become so trusting of her, they now take her every word as gospel. The problem with that is, we may have become ignorant to what is happening all around us. We are so focussed on her smiles, reassurance, jokes and calmness, we have been blinded to the tens of thousands of Kiwis who have lost their jobs in just a matter of weeks. We have been ignorant to the tens of thousands of others whose income has dropped by up to 100%! We are ignorant to the fact our quality of life has changed for the worst, not just for now, but for most of us – for many years to come if not the rest of our life.
As a people we now need to start asking the big questions of our current Gov’t. We need to be wary of news media organisations who are so busy holding their hands out for millions of dollars from the Gov’t, they will publish whatever story the Gov’t asks them to, and ignore everything the Gov’t tells them to.
We should not let second rate news outlets like Stuff, the leader of fake news in New Zealand, take millions of our tax payer dollars while thousands of hard working average Kiwis lose their livelihoods, their houses, their quality of life they worked so hard for.
Wake up New Zealand, the worst of the pandemic not just in NZ but around the World is almost passed. Do not let the media, nor the Gov’t, keep using this tragedy to get what they want, at your expense.
