Fake News Site ‘Stuff’ Should Not Receive Millions of Tax Payer Dollars

The news website ‘Stuff’ is probably the biggest perpetrator of “fake news” in New Zealand.  The largest amount of evidence to prove this is their continual bombardment of dishonest, biased and mostly incorrect articles about manmade climate change.  Some estimate up to 75% of the articles they publish about climate change are simply garbage that they push out to the public pretending they are based on true “facts”, when in fact they are simply propaganda put out by illegal organisations like Greenpeace and Extinction Rebellion.  To make matters worse fake news outlet ‘Stuff’ have an actual well published policy stating they will not publish any article that even questions manmade climate change, despite thousands of scientists Worldwide stating they do not believe any climate change happening is caused by mankind.

Not only does ‘Stuff’ continually publish fake news, the quality of their other articles is often about the level of what a poor performing high school student would write.  One glaring example was on January 31st 2020, when the World Health Organisation announced Covid-19 was a “World Health Emergency”.  Almost every reputable media organisation in the World led their headlines with that news.  But not ‘Stuff’, instead their main headline that day was “The Good Place finale finally sticks the forking landing”.  Yes, their headline was about an online streamed comedy program that most people have never even heard of.

The most outrageous thing of all is ‘Stuff’, like some other second rate news media outlets, have their hands out to the Government at the moment asking for millions of dollars, because the Pandemic has hurt their income from advertising.  The fact that this fake news outlet didn’t take the Pandemic seriously for weeks, almost ignoring it and in fact even trying to infer it was ‘nothing to worry about’, is reason enough to now not hand them a few million dollars, a gift that we will have to pay back out of our taxes.  But more importantly, they were virtually broke anyway, and the Pandemic is simply an excuse they are using, like many other pre-Pandemic financially struggling businesses, to get a free hand out and save their already failing business.

If there is one thing all Kiwis should be putting their foot down about in the fallout from the Covid-19 crisis, it is for the Government to NOT hand out money to unscrupulous fake news outlet ‘Stuff’!  Let them go broke, hopefully close down, and do the country a favour!
