New Zealand and a Government with no Plan

New Zealand is currently seeing an average of 1000 jobs lost per day!  This is as a result of the restrictions put in place for the Covid 19 virus.  Many argue the Gov’t did a great job in managing the virus, with (according to MOH tests) there being no sign of community transmission at this stage.  But now the hard part comes, with no international tourists on the horizon for at least another 6 months, possibly even 12 or longer, we need to use infrastructure and exports to create new jobs.

The Labour led Gov’t presented a “$50 billion budget” – which gave many hope.  But the finer details should really bring fear to Kiwis everywhere.  By their own admission, they had no plan, they still have – no plan.

But there are opportunities smacking them clean in the face!  The most obvious of all is the new Dunedin hospital build.  Originally they estimated it would take eight years to build it!  So, fast track this!  Make it 2 to 3 years, double the original construction workforce, build a much bigger and better hospital, able to serve the Country in times of emergency (like Pandemics!).  It will directly create an extra 1000 or so jobs, and maybe the same amount indirectly, as well as help boost the now struggling Otago economy.

If this current Government won’t take advantage of the most obvious opportunity that currently exists, then how on Earth can we have any faith in them for leading the Country for another three years!
