Will the NZ Labour Government Hide any Community Transmission Before the Election?

We must be the luckiest country in the World!  Simple as that!  Where other countries have seen community transmission within days of any person testing positive with Covid 19 getting out into the community, apparently the now several people who have tested positive and either been allowed to leave or have escaped quarantine in NZ haven’t passed the highly infectious disease to anyone else.

The upcoming election in NZ will be won or lost mostly on one matter, that being the management and control of Covid 19 in the country.  After all, Labour have failed miserably in every single other part of Government, including not even getting near to meeting any of their promises.  So far, if we believe what we are told, we have all but “eliminated the virus”.  In other words, ‘vote for us, because we have saved you all’, the virus simply isn’t out there.  Or, is it?

Rumours have it (and yes they are just rumours, but they are gaining some momentum and some credence as time moves onwards) that deaths in NZ are quite a lot higher than what they normally would be for the last few months, for pneumonia related deaths.  With testing for Covid 19 still being very slack overall in NZ, it is not clear whether all those victims of death from pneumonia were tested for Covid 19.  If they were, and returned positive results – are they being reported as such, or being recorded as “false positives”, in other words ‘the test must be faulty because we don’t believe they had Covid 19.

With an election only weeks away, any community transmission now would seriously affect Labour’s chances of walking into power with a majority vote, which is what (frighteningly) they are currently headed for. So we have to ask, will the Gov’t slyly come up with ways of hiding any outbreak until just after the election?  Of course we will never know, unless within just days of them winning they suddenly announce there is a some community transmission and lockdowns or similar are needed.  Or will that simply be “coincidental timing”, and a ‘nothing to see here’ response from joking Jacinda and Co.
